All about us
It all started as a hobby
The past - 2014-2023
Gymtopia North East Gymnastics Club opened on the 18th November 2014 and first began in both Kenton School sports hall and Wallbottle School sports hall with 3 gymnasts and 2 coaches; one of them being head coach and director Felicity Brown.
Felicity had always dreamed of opening her own club to cater for the local community and beyond, giving the potential for participants from all backgrounds to enjoy and love the sport of Gymnastics. Gymtopia quickly expanded to include multiple classes and in April 2017 opened in its own premises in Brunswick, Newcastle to accommodate the growing number of gymnasts in the club. Gymtopia is fully affiliated with British Gymnastics.
Gymtopia houses approx 450 at the moment. Gymnasts from recreational to national level and excel elite. Beyond this, Gymtopia has 13 recreational classes per week and has developed a growing preschool section to encourage any future gymnasts and increase participation levels from an earlier age. Gymtopia also has 15 competitive groups of all ages. Gymtopia aims to provide opportunities for all, including recreational, competitive and coaching opportunities. Gymtopia believes that sporting participation has great value in the lives of all, beyond the sport. Gymnastics teaches hard work, determination, teamwork and discipline.
It is with this work ethic that has enabled Gymtopia to have gymnasts compete all over the country since its opening in 2014, Newcastle, Durham, Redcar, Liverpool, Preston, Nottingham including representing the North of England region in stoke on Trent and Surrey at National Finals multiple times. In 2018 & 2022, 2023/2024/2025 Gymtopia also expanded to a International competition, competing in Malta twice
The Present
Gymtopia Gymnastics CIO a registered charity now since September 2023.
After a long process Gymtopia has been given a charity status. This will help Gymtopia improve for the future for all our gymnasts.
Gymtopia offers a range of disciplines including recreation, preschool, women’s artistic, women’s general and recreational. We also welcome gymnasts into all of our disciplines that are neurodiverse, helping and supporting all gymnasts reach their full potential, and to compete in competitions.
Gaining our charity status will help Gymtopia to access funding, grants and TAX relief and allow Gymtopia continue to provide a high level of Gymnastics activities for all and to the local area and beyond.
Gymtopia is always looking to improve the club, we are always fundraising to improve our equipment for the gymnasts to thrive in a sport they love and in the next 20-24 months find a new location premises or build new premises, due to outgrowing our current facility, and wanting to improve the premises for all members.
Gymtopia always has the moto believe in yourself and you will be unstoppable.
